Day 4137
Day 4137 in Seahaven Springs, under cloudy skies. Word has gone round the kitchens: Truman Beaumont is to be given his favourite, and no bill. The Town Hall clock and the bakery clock disagree by two minutes. Both are certain. Perry Gorse's evening happened, ran long, and is still being talked about. Nothing bad ever happens here — but something is always going on. Word of an Inspection reaches its conclusion. Goodnight, Truman. In case we don't see you: good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight.
