On a Wednesday brushed clean by rain and crowned with a rainbow, Seahaven Springs settled into the comfortable rhythms it does best—benches claimed, coffee drunk, small wagers concluded with grace. There were mysteries afoot, of course: a postcard arrived for Elaine that left her thoughtful, the traveling garden gnome had migrated once more, and somewhere in Rex's bar an extra chair had appeared without fanfare. But Truman sang badly to his favorite song in the kitchen, June stepped out with him, and the town paused as though to catch its breath before the evening rain began again—each umbrella blooming at precisely the right moment. Nothing bad happened in Seahaven Springs today, which is to say everything happened exactly as it should.
