What a day it was in Seahaven Springs—Bev Tanner made her triumphant return from the hospital to find the tide had left treasures waiting on the shore, and she gathered the town around her with nothing but chairs and the warmth of being well again. The bakery's perfume drifted clear across to the square (setting productivity records for underachievement), while up in the orchard, Saturday morning philosophy centered entirely on the merits and perils of ladders. As evening fell soft and golden, Truman sat at The Anchor's piano, playing it with the confidence of a man who has never met a piano before, while half the town lounged in the last of the sunshine and Sal Marino discovered that even he could lose a staring contest to a seagull. Small disagreements resolved themselves—the clocks would keep their two-minute rebellion, Hal and Marla found their way back to easy conversation, and the sun, as always, knew exactly when to break through the clouds. Nothing much happened, and everything was exactly as it should be.
