Day 5256
Day 5256 in Seahaven Springs, under cloudy skies. Wren Gorse's evening happened, ran long, and is still being talked about. Kip Doyle and Dot Ferris have quietly become the sort of friends who notice things. A heron has taken up position at Miller's Pond and is refusing to be hurried. Nothing bad ever happens here — but something is always going on. The Barrel Of Vinegar Delivery runs into trouble. Goodnight, Truman. In case we don't see you: good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight.

14:00Every car, gull and passer-by around Truman Beaumont paused at once, as though waiting for a cue.
14:00The radio in Truman Beaumont's kitchen has been persuaded to play his favourite song. He is singing along, badly.
14:45Iris Brody and Marla Finch have got into the habit of each other.
15:00The same passer-by has now walked past Truman Beaumont three times on the same route.
