Day 5588
Day 5588 in Seahaven Springs, under rainy skies. Opal Ferris is in a staring contest with a gull on the dock. The gull is winning. Dot Ferris and Kip Doyle no longer need a reason to call round. Fog has come in off the bay and stopped, very precisely, at the edge of town. Nothing bad ever happens here — but something is always going on. Goodnight, Truman. In case we don't see you: good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight.
