Day 5911
Day 5911 in Seahaven Springs, under sunny skies. Alma Callahan is in a staring contest with a gull on the dock. The gull is winning. Kip Doyle has kept at practising stories worth telling long enough that the town expects it now. Iris Brody has received a postcard from somewhere far away. The handwriting is unfamiliar. Nothing bad ever happens here — but something is always going on. Whose Ladder Is This takes a turn. Goodnight, Truman. In case we don't see you: good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight.
