Marla emerged from the hospital fully recovered and ready to reclaim her post at the café, while poor Fern Gorse checked in for a few days after a tumble from a stepladder — but not before closing the book on one of the town's little mysteries with characteristic satisfaction. The weather turned theatrical, painting rainbows across the bay between showers, and by evening The Anchor was thick with Friday night warmth: Dot leading the room in a chorus-less song, Norma holding forth on boats, and Hal's fish story growing more magnificent with each telling. Even Truman found himself caught up in the merriment, ordering one for the road and promptly forgetting which direction home was — a gentle reminder that sometimes the nicest towns are the ones where no one's in a hurry to leave.
