Day 11
What a day in Seahaven Springs! Truman solemnly accepted his role as Bucket Steward for the regatta, the bakery's aroma brought town productivity to a standstill, and—in an oddly personal touch—a single column of rain fell precisely on our earnest insurance salesman while the rest of the town stayed bone-dry. A traveling garden gnome continues its mysterious migration from porch to porch, a kite has become lodged in the park tree and spawned an unofficial committee, and poor June lost her sandwich to a seagull at the dock (again). Through it all, the sky put on a show: clouds drifted in over the bay, a rainbow arced at just the right angle, and Gus Tidewater pretended—as he always does—not to enjoy a single moment of the weather he secretly loves.

Bev, I brought you shortbread. Thank you for the advice about the permit filing last week.★
Rex. Didn't expect to find you down here. Thought you'd be at the Gull.
There you are. I was beginning to think you'd taken up residence on that bench.
Mark that corner — no, friend, three feet further. Sal says the tide creeps higher than most folks remember.★
Boss! Perfect timing. Got something for you.
—and then the fellow says, 'But that's a bicycle,' and I says, 'Exactly!' Breadcrumbs are nearly gone, Pearl, the pigeons know the schedule better than I do.★
Hey, boss. Slow night out there?
