What a Friday it was in Seahaven Springs — mysterious postcards arrived to set minds wondering, a regatta got relocated by precisely twelve feet (Hal measured twice to be sure), and by evening The Anchor had filled with the kind of gentle chaos that only happens when the rain clears and everyone remembers they have nowhere better to be. Truman and Hal, in a moment of perfect synchronicity, both thanked every chair in the bar for its service, which nobody will ever quite explain. Gus, having ordered one for the road, wandered off convinced he'd forgotten which direction to travel, while Norma — dear, efficient Norma — sat at the piano playing something that was neither quite a song nor quite an accident. In Seahaven Springs, Friday nights don't need to make sense to be exactly right.
