What a day it was in Seahaven Springs—Rex emerged from the hospital fully mended, the rain came and went like a visiting friend, and a rainbow hung over the bay as if painted special. The town gathered at Miller's Pond to watch a heron hold court in the reeds, the orchard burst into bloom with its familiar hum of bees, and somewhere in the evening, someone played eight bars of the same gentle piano melody while Gus pretended very hard not to be playing harmonica down at the dock. The light turned almost unreasonably golden, and an umbrella still waited by the café door, patient as only forgotten things can be. In Seahaven Springs, where nothing bad ever happens, today was the kind where everything felt just right.
