Day 1702

What a day it's been in Seahaven Springs — the sky put on a full performance, cycling through rain and rainbows and fog with the precision of a well-rehearsed theatre, while the town went about its gentle business below. Linus Tidewater's gathering came together with just enough chairs and a lack of speeches, Dot Ferris finally finished what she'd been meaning to say (and it was a lovely thing), and down at The Anchor, the evening took on that particular quality where Bea Callahan cannot play piano but is playing it anyway, Abel is swearing eternal friendship to strangers, and Fern Gorse is teaching songs that seem to have forgotten their own choruses. Nothing too serious has happened — nothing ever does — but something has been going on all day long.
