Day 1992
Day 1992 dawned bright over Seahaven Springs, and the town rose to meet it with characteristic warmth—a bakery queue that stretched to the door, a secret taste-testing session in the park, and hospital visiting hours that looked more like a party. Dot ventured down to the tide line to see what the ocean had left behind, while overhead a kite caught itself in the big tree, summoning the town's favorite kind of committee. When rain came, umbrellas bloomed like flowers; when it cleared, a rainbow painted itself across the sky at just the right angle. By evening, the whole town had drifted outside to sit in the warm, and somewhere in the distance, someone played the same eight bars of piano again—a tune Seahaven Springs has grown fond of hearing. It was the kind of day that makes you believe this really is the finest town in the world.
