The safety inspector worked through his checklist with the diligence of a man who'd never found anything to actually inspect, while overhead a rainbow seemed painted just for us. Pearl Gorse is resting up in Seahaven General after a spirited disagreement with her garden, and the town has rallied around her with the quiet devotion it always does. The rain came and went like an old friend, and through it all—the benches claimed, the front door repainted, the gull holding its ground against young Milo—the everyday magic of this little town kept turning, gentle and warm as ever.
