The fog rolled in with artistic precision, the rain came and went twice with cinematic flair, and somewhere in the middle of it all, a hedge dispute was diplomatically resolved and old tensions between Fern and Flo melted away over a quiet chat. Down at The Anchor this evening, Rex and Flo took turns at the piano—neither particularly skilled, but both utterly game—while Gus pretended not to notice when Rex quietly moved him closer to the water, and the light over town turned almost unreasonably golden. By night's end, Hal had declared Seahaven Springs the finest town in the world not once but twice, and somewhere in his kitchen, Truman was singing badly along to his favorite song, completely unaware that the whole evening had unfolded like a perfect little story written just for him.
