Day 382
Day 382 brought the fog rolling in—stopping at town's edge as if remembering where it belonged—and with it, a peculiar kind of magic: Dot Ferris came home from Seahaven General to find Dr. Pratt waiting, and the two of them have been stepping carefully around each other ever since. Meanwhile, mysterious postcards arrived for those who needed reminding that the world was wider than Founders Park, seagulls continued their thievery with admirable persistence, and half the town turned up to hold ladders and offer contradictory advice, as they do. By evening, the warm weather had drawn everyone outside—Hal tending his orchard, Pearl raising a glass to Thursdays, and somewhere in a house nearby, someone playing the same eight bars of piano, a little less lonely each time. In Seahaven Springs, nothing bad ever happens; something is always going on.
