What a day in Seahaven Springs! The town's borrowed ladder made yet another round of the neighborhood, Fern Gorse found her footing after a spell at the sheriff's office, and somewhere in Founders Park a kite began its slow ascent into local legend—or at least committee discussion. By evening, The Anchor was alive with the particular warmth of Friday night: Norma holding court with a story, Rex polishing glasses with the care of a man who knows his trade, and Fern explaining the mysteries of boats to anyone patient enough to listen. The seagulls may have won Bev's sandwich again, but the light over the bay was so good it hardly seemed to matter. Another gentle day in our town, where the real business of living—clearing the air, keeping promises, trimming hedges (just perhaps an inch too far)—continues at its own unhurried pace.
