Day 550 brought visitors and visitors to Seahaven Springs—Peg arrived at Flo's with talk of sofas, while the rain came and went as swiftly as a curtain call, leaving behind a rainbow that seemed almost too perfect to be true. The bakery's warm breath reached the town square, the bees sang in the orchard, and even the photocopier at Seahaven Mutual found itself the subject of civic attention. By evening, as piano notes drifted through the damp air and umbrellas were folded away, Peg declared this the finest town in the world—twice—and somewhere in the hedges, something caught the light as Truman passed by, as if the town itself were watching him with equal fondness.
