Day 131
On this warm and golden Friday evening in Seahaven Springs, the town settled into contentment like a cat on the Town Hall steps—Fern was home and healing, the orchard sang with bees and blossoms, and even a seagull's theft of Bev's sandwich couldn't dampen the mood. At The Anchor, Rex polished his good glasses for a crowd drawn by warmth and company, while down at the dock, Gus played a harmonica he insists belongs to someone else entirely. By the time the sun broke through one final time over the bay, Seahaven Springs had done what it does best: turned an ordinary Friday into something that felt like a benediction.
OPEN THIS DAY IN THE BROADCASTWhat was announced
00:00Fern Gorse has been discharged from Seahaven General and is right as rain.
07:00The rain has cleared. A rainbow appeared at a frankly cinematic angle.
08:00The community orchard is in blossom and briefly the best place in town.
11:00Pearl Gorse answered a question Truman Beaumont had not asked out loud.
11:00Word has gone round the kitchens: Truman Beaumont is to be given his favourite, and no bill.
12:00Clouds drift in over the bay. Gus pretends not to enjoy it.
13:00A form has been filed correctly at the first attempt. Town Hall is quietly jubilant.
13:42The acts are performed. Several are genuinely good, which surprises everyone.
14:00The orchard is loud with bees. Nobody has been stung in living memory.
15:00The town cat is asleep on the Town Hall steps. Municipal business reroutes around it.
16:00A seagull has stolen Bev Tanner's sandwich near the dock. Again.
18:00Friday evening has begun at The Anchor. Rex is polishing the good glasses.
18:00A heron has taken up position at Miller's Pond and is refusing to be hurried.
19:00There is one more chair at The Anchor than there was yesterday. Rex has not mentioned it.
20:00Faint harmonica music was heard from the dock. Gus denies everything.
21:00It is warm enough to sit outside. Half the town has done exactly that.
21:12Dot Ferris has thanked every chair in The Anchor for its service.
22:00The sun breaks through over Seahaven Springs, precisely on cue.
22:25Gus Tidewater has ordered one for the road and then forgotten which road.
