Through it all, a kite caught in the park tree sparked the formation of yet another committee, fresh bread lured workers from their desks, and Truman, ever the optimist, raised a toast to Thursdays themselves. By evening, the clouds had parted to reveal a rainbow so perfectly pitched it seemed almost rehearsed, and the little town settled into its Saturday night with the quiet satisfaction of a day lived well and wholly unremarkably.
