Day 140

Day 140 dawned with Kip bouncing back from Seahaven General, ready to fill the town with the smell of fresh bread once more—and fill it he did, the whole square going wonderfully dreamy by mid-morning. Gus watched the clouds roll in over the bay and complained about the weather in that particular way that means he was perfectly content, while Rex quietly added a new chair to The Anchor as if chairs simply grow there. The afternoon brought rain and umbrellas in perfect synchrony, then cleared to a rainbow so precisely angled the producers themselves seemed to smile, and by evening the whole town had drifted toward The Salty Gull for Sunday supper, warm and full and heading home under the glow of streetlights. Somewhere in town, someone played those same eight bars of piano again, and nobody minded one bit.
