The bakery queue stretched out the door with nobody bothering to complain, Sal confessed his cream secrets to Marla (the chowder mystery deepens), and Norma and Marla's pie collaboration turned out to be everything the town hoped for. As evening fell and Rex polished his good glasses at The Anchor, the light over Seahaven Springs turned almost unreasonably golden—the kind of light that makes you believe, just for a moment, that nothing bad ever happens here. The rain came gently after, umbrellas blooming like flowers, and the whole town settled in for a Friday night that felt, somehow, exactly right.
