Day 256 in Seahaven Springs, under cloudy skies. Hal Brody is in a staring contest with a gull on the dock. The gull is winning. Dot Ferris is stepping out with Dr. Cornelius Pratt. Dot Ferris has been quiet lately, and keeps starting sentences she does not finish. Nothing bad ever happens here — but something is always going on. A Surprise for Truman Beaumont runs into trouble.
