Day 395
Day 395 dawned with mysteries both solved and ongoing: Pearl Gorse closed the book on a small question that had been nagging at her, while somewhere on a porch, the traveling garden gnome claimed a new home—though nobody seemed to remember moving it. The day brought small victories and small comedies in equal measure: June and Truman, having promised each other to finish what they started, kept that promise; Elaine and Bev did the same; and even Hal and June followed through on their word. There were seagulls winning staring contests and stealing sandwiches, clouds drifting over the bay (which Gus pretended not to enjoy), and the town clock standing utterly unbothered when the lights flickered for three seconds. And as the sun broke through precisely on cue, Seahaven Springs settled into evening the way it always does—with benches claimed, a new book begun that would probably not be finished, and the gentle certainty that nothing bad ever happens here, but something is always going on.
