The rain brought everyone together at the Sunrise Café and The Anchor, where the evening took on that particular warm chaos that happens when friends gather—a spirited debate about buoys, a discussion of fishing records, and a mild disagreement over the last pickled egg all left their marks. By night's end, Rex found himself accepting Sheriff Brody's invitation to the holding cell (a gentlemanly arrangement, as these things are), and Truman and June lingered over dinner while Elaine and Truman's friendship deepened into something neither quite named. As the rain cleared and a rainbow arched over town, Seahaven Springs settled into Friday evening with the comfortable knowledge that nothing bad had happened, but something was always, always going on.
